LSO Discovery

A collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra, McCallum Theater Aesthetic Education Program, and PSHIL Philharmonic Pathways aims to deliver two educational concerts for students, along with professional development opportunities for teachers.

Program Highlights

Student Concert

Students will experience an engaging and interactive LSO Discovery Schools Concert featuring Benjamin Britten's The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, presented by Rachel Leach with direct engagement from LSO musicians, as they explore the sounds, roles, and stories of each instrument through dynamic live performance, guided participation, and creative musical activities designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and foster a lasting connection to orchestral music.

Professional Development

Four interactive 2.5-hour Creative Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshops, based on the London Symphony Orchestra Discovery Teacher In-Service Training model, will equip 80 teachers with practical tools to prepare students for the concert through music creation, participation songs, and digital classroom resources-no prior musical experience required!

Meet the Animateur!

Rachel Leach is one of the UK's leading orchestral animateurs. For over 25 years she has devised and led education projects, presented concerts, composed music and written teachers’ resources for the UK's top orchestras and opera companies. Outside of the UK she has led projects in the US, New Zealand, Japan and across Europe. 1000s of children have seen her concerts and sung her songs and 100s of teachers use her educational resources everyday.
