Education Coordinator

Alyssa Burno joined Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic in 2025 as the organization’s first Events and Education Coordinator, bringing a dynamic background in music education, curriculum leadership, and community engagement.

A passionate educator and program builder, Alyssa holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Western Illinois University and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois Urbana–Champaign. Over the past seven years, she has worked in both suburban and urban school districts across Illinois and Missouri, serving as a teacher, program manager, and curriculum lead.

Prior to her role at PS Phil, Alyssa served as Orchestra Director and Fine Arts Curriculum Lead for Kansas City Public Schools, where she designed district-wide music curriculum, facilitated professional development for educators, and championed inclusive arts instruction. She has led choral, orchestral, and general music programs; developed after-school and summer enrichment initiatives; and partnered with school leaders to improve access to the arts.

Her career is marked by a commitment to equity and cultural responsiveness in education. Alyssa has developed DEI-focused workshops, social justice-centered curriculum units, and student-led programming that reflects the diverse voices of the communities she serves.

At Palm Springs Friends of Philharmonic, Alyssa leads the organization’s growing educational and outreach efforts, including:

  • Hands-on school concerts and workshops for grades 3–5
  • Collaborations with professional touring orchestras and local arts partners
  • Administration of music education grants and instrument donation programs
  • Development of new scholarship initiatives and access programs for underserved students
  • Planning and support for donor events, and community events

“I believe music is not only a form of artistic expression,” Alyssa says, “but also a powerful tool for building community, fostering empathy, and empowering young people to find their voices.”

She is thrilled to bring her expertise and energy to PS Phil as the organization expands its mission to serve students, educators, and families across the Coachella Valley.
