The San Diego Symphony Orchestra has emerged as one of the most exciting ensembles in the country under the leadership of Rafael Payare. Known for his energy and charisma on the podium, Payare has infused the orchestra with a bold new spirit, earning acclaim for performances that are both dynamic and deeply expressive.
Joining him in Palm Desert is violinist Leonidas Kavakos, hailed worldwide for his commanding sound and insightful artistry. Kavakos will perform Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D major, a cornerstone of the repertoire that demands both virtuosity and lyrical beauty. From its sweeping first movement to its soulful slow movement and exuberant finale, the concerto remains one of the greatest showcases for both soloist and orchestra.
The evening also features Brahms’ Symphony No. 3 in F major, a compact yet deeply moving work. Its famous third movement, with its wistful melody, has long captured the imagination of audiences and remains one of Brahms’ most beloved creations.
Together, these two masterworks reveal the full range of Brahms’ genius — passionate, lyrical, and profound — brought to life by Payare, Kavakos, and the brilliant San Diego Symphony.
